Noel Gallagher gets frank about life in his 50s: ‘I can’t wait to get my mobility scooter’

Noel Gallagher has quipped that he “can’t wait to get a mobility scooter” as he discussed life in his 50s.

Despite the rock ‘n’ roll antics of his youth, the High Flying Birds hitmaker, who turned 50 back in 2017, admitted that every “knock” is now taking its toll on him.

Speaking to Greatest Hits Radio’s Ken Bruce, the former Oasis rocker shared: “My forties was my absolute peak but from the minute I woke up on the 30th May in my first day of my fifties I was like, it’s just been one thing after another.

“What I’ve found is that the slightest knock stays with you for ages and then once that’s cleared up its something else and then once that’s cleared up its something else.

“I can’t wait to get my mobility scooter if I’m being honest.”

However, it’s not all bad news for Gallagher who said that he is enjoying the wisdom that comes with getting older – and more importantly, not caring about what anybody else thinks.

Gallagher appeared on Ken Bruce’s new show on Greatest Hits Radio on Tuesday (YouTube/Greatest Hits Radio)

“‌There’s a lot of experience now,” he shared. “I find when you get to a certain age you just don’t care anymore.

“I’m not bothered what people think and I feel a lot more experienced now at life itself.

“But I’m not too good at dodging traffic anymore – I have to wait until the green man comes on. It’s a good job I don’t take the bus anywhere because I wouldn’t be catching any of them!”

His comments comes as Gallagher admitted he quit learning to drive after being mobbed by fans during his first lesson.

The 55-year-old said he gave up after his driving instructor caused a group of fans to hound him as he was behind the wheel in the 1990s.

He explained: “The woman who gave me the lesson… I was driving round a housing estate in Slough and she said to me, ‘Pull in here’. I pulled over and she got out of the car.

“She said, ‘I’ll be back in a minute’ and she came out with her mum. She’d driven me to her house and her mum was taking a picture of me in the street in Slough.”

Things then escalated when a nearby school bell sounded and the students started storming out.

He told Zoe Ball on the Radio 2 breakfast show: “I’m in a red Nissan Micra with a massive great big triangle on the top of it with an L, with all these kids coming out.

“This is at the height of Oasis mania. I was like, ‘Never, never again am I getting in a car’.”

Gallagher, who has been the frontman for his rock band High Flying Birds since quitting Oasis due to a feud with his brother and former bandmate Liam Gallagher in 2009, has used a chauffeur to drive him around for years.

Despite the rocker not having a licence, he continues to splash out on luxury cars, including a £110,000 vintage Jaguar, which he previously labelled his “most expensive mistake”.
