Noel Gallagher has mocked the body of his younger brother Liam during a brutal discussion about the singer’s appearance and singing abilities.
The 54-year-old former Oasis singer has had a long and explosive relationship with 49-year-old brother Liam since their epic fall out in 2009.
And while there are occasionally flirtatious hints that the brother’s might bury the hatchet and resurrect their iconic Brit-pop era band, the rumours tend to be swiftly extinguished by one brother or the other saying something offensive.
Fans should therefor perhaps not be too surprised to hear that Noel has made a cruel jibe about Liam’s weight – which will no doubt disrupt any reunion dreams.
The Mancunian singer took a swipe while chatting on The Matt Morgan Podcast as he mocked his younger brother’s body.
Noel said: “Usually when he is wearing a big coat it’s because he’s got a big thing to hide underneath – a bit of a belly.”
And it wasn’t just Liam’s waistline that Noel threw a verbal punch at, he also disrespected his singing ability by suggesting his range is not up to scratch.
Noel huffed: “When I was writing in Oasis, in the early days, I’d always listen to Liam’s voice.
“I’d write the melody in the style he sang until it became such a restrictive, narrow way of writing, where it’s like, ‘I can’t do this any more’.
“That’s when the songs started to change, because once you’ve done it, you’ve done it.”
In recent years, Liam has been known to enjoy running outdoors – before doctors advised him to switch up his exercise regime to cycling due to arthritis affecting his knees.
Last year, Noel confessed that he was the reason that he and his brother fell out – bringing Oasis to a screeching halt as a band.
Discussing the 2009 collapse of the band, Noel revealed his petty reaction to a bag of clothes gifted to him by his brother from his fashion line, Pretty Green, was the catalyst that lead to Oasis’ break up.
He recalled: "Liam gave us a load of clobber, not just me, he gave the band it. I went straight to the charity shop and left it in the shop doorway.
“He went f****** mental. He said, ‘If you didn’t f****** want it, you should have just said you didn’t f******
want it, you c***.
"It was on the shop mannequin in Barnardo’s a month before it launched. If push comes to shove, that was the beginning of the end.”
Back in 2020, Noel shot down hopes that Oasis would reform amid reports the lads had been offered £100 million to get back together.
He seethed on Twitter at the time: “So..just while I’m in between having my nails done and taking my regular elocution lessons I’d like to point out AGAIN that I’m not aware of any offer for any amount of money to reform the legendary rock’n’folk outfit Oasis.”
