Nobody Wants This Ft. Kristen Bell & Adam Brody Is The Next Hot Netflix Show, Mark My Words

I’m calling it now — Nobody Wants This is the next series that will be on everybody’s lips in a week’s time. It’s a big call but I am standing by it.

The upcoming series is funny, heartfelt and incredibly charming. Plus, it stars two absolute icons of early 2000s television: Veronica Mars star and noted sloth enthusiast Kristen Bell and The O.C.‘s true heartthrob Adam Brody.

It follows an absolute yapper named Joanne (Kristen Bell) who has a bit of a meet-cute with a hot devout Rabbi named Noah (Adam Brody). Their worlds couldn’t be more different, and their outlook on life couldn’t be more opposite but somehow they hit it off, starting a strange little relationship that it seems like no one in their life truly supports.

But before we get into the juicy stuff, let me say that I have already binged the entire show and I am obsessed. One of the perks of writing about TV is that I sometimes get screeners to preview series’ before they launch. While I love to sample the goods, it’s not every day I watch an entire first season in less than a week.

This one got me good, and I already am begging, nay, pleading for season two. So please, give it a go, just for my desperate sake.

Here’s everything you need to know about Netflix’s upcoming romantic comedy Nobody Wants This.

Table of contents

What is Nobody Wants This about?

Nobody Wants This is about an outspoken, agnostic woman named Joanne. She hosts a sex-positive dating podcast with her sister Morgan (Justine Lupe) and has been notably unlucky in love. One night, Joanne heads to dinner at her bestie’s house where she hits it off with a sexy Rabbi named Noah who has recently become single.

They’re the last thing each other expected but soon, they kick of a strange yet kind of perfect romance.

Is Nobody Wants This based on a true story?

Kind of! If this story sounds vaguely familiar, it’s because it was created by American writer and performer Erin Foster.

Erin rose to prominence after creating and starring in the reality television parody show Barley Famous alongside her sister Sara Foster. In 2017, the sisters became the creative heads of the dating app Bumble. Multi-talented queens!!!

In Erin’s personal life, she surprised her entire social circle when she fell in love with a devout Jewish boy.

“This show is based on the only good decision I ever made: falling for a nice Jewish boy,” Foster told Netflix TUDUM.

“But I realised that being happy is way harder than being miserable — there’s nothing to complain about. So, I created this show based on all the ways that finding the right person can be so hard.”

Who is in Nobody Wants This?

The series stars Kristen Bell and Adam Brody as the sweet couple at the centre of the drama and they’re actually perfect, completely leaning into the quippy humour we know them for. But it’s the supporting cast that truly takes this show from a fun watch to a great watch.

Justine Lupe — who is most well known for her amazing portrayal as Willa in Succession — is hilarious as the straight-talking and low-key diabolical sister Morgan. Then, equally as brilliant is Veep‘s Timothy Simons as Sasha, Noah’s brother. Sasha is married to Esther (Jackie Tohn), a strong Jewish woman who he is equally terrified and in awe of.

Noah’s seemingly perfect ex-girlfriend Rebecca is played by Grown-ish star Emily Arlook. Paul Ben-Victor and Tovah Feldshuh play Noah’s devout parents while Stephanie Faracy and Michael Hitchcock play Joanne’s kooky parents.

The series also stars comedian Sherry Cola as Joanne’s best friend.

Is there a trailer for Nobody Wants This?

Yes, yes there is! You can watch the sweet lil’ trailer below.

What have the reviews been like?

Well, aside from my own glowing one, they’ve also been pretty damn positive!

This week, The Guardian said the series referred to the series as being “slick and bingeable, full of snappy, sassy dialogue, mild cultural confusing and a sense and a sense that for all of its breeziness, something gently serious might lurk beneath the surface.”

The Guardian are tough nuts to crack so that’s pretty promising, if you ask me! Also, as the series hasn’t been released, Nobody Wants This doesn’t have a Rotten Tomatoes ranking just yet.

When does Nobody Wants This come out?

Netflix’s soon-to-be hottest series premieres on Netflix on September 26. Not long to go!!!!

Well, there you have it. I stand by my analysis — this show slaps.

You can watch Nobody Wants This from 5pm Thursday, September 26 on Netflix.
