Leeds United have released a fitting statement on Kalvin Phillips’ time at the club after his move to Manchester City was confirmed. Phillips has put pen-to-paper on a six-year-deal with the Premier League champions after the two clubs agreed a fee in the region of £42 million over a week ago.
The 26-year-old departs his boyhood club having made 234 appearances; a period where he was able to establish himself as one of the best holding midfielders in the country. Leeds had come into the summer hopeful Phillips may sign a new contract, but when City came knocking it became too difficult for the England international to turn down.
He now heads to a club with ambitions to win four trophies every season and the chance to play on the biggest stages in club football. Phillips departs Elland Road club as arguably its greatest export since James Milner in 2004.
