As enrollment paperwork goes out across the country, the most common question arriving at school nurse offices has a settled answer: no state has changed what vaccines a child needs to attend school, and the federal executive order signed this month does not require any state to do so.
All 50 states set their own school immunization laws, and all 50 allow medical exemptions. State health departments are still reviewing the order, but many have said it does not require changes at the state level. Texas told CNN that federal recommendations do not change state requirements, and Maine said its school and child care immunization requirements remain unchanged by federal actions to date.
