The federal government has blocked an attempt to hold an inquiry into the impacts of large-scale renewable energy projects on regional communities such as the Upper Hunter and New England.
Hunter-based Nationals senator Ross Cadell moved a motion calling for the inquiry on Wednesday following recent comments from Prime Minister Anthony Albanese about the need for renewable energy investors to obtain a social licence from the communities that they operate in.
