No parties have gender-balanced candidate list for General Election in Scotland

NOT one of Scotland's political parties has produced a gender-balanced selection of candidates for the General Election, it has been revealed.

At the time of print, the number of overall candidates which have so far been announced is 218. Of those, only 71 are women – just 33%.

The party with the most gender-balanced selection of candidates is Scottish Labour, where 41% of candidates are women. The party has selected a candidate for all 57 seats, 23 of which are women.

The Scottish Greens follow next, with 40% (10) of their candidates being women. The party has so far selected 25 candidates.

The SNP have selected all of their candidates, with a total of 22 (39%) being women. 

The Scottish Conservatives have not yet confirmed candidates for 13 seats. A total of 23% (10) of their candidates so far are women.

The party with the least gender-balanced selection of candidates is Alba. The party has selected 12 candidates so far, with just one of them – former SNP MP Corri Wilson – being a woman.
