ESPN analyst and former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III might think he can still play in the NFL, but he’s not lobbying himself as a possible option for the New York Jets.
While discussing the season-ending Aaron Rodgers injury and what the Jets will do at quarterback on ESPN’s Get Up, Griffin talked about why bringing in a notable backup would be a distraction for quarterback Zach Wilson.
Griffin names himself along with guys like Carson Wentz, Cam Newton and Colin Kaepernick that are unlikely to get signed by NFL franchises to be backups because of their prolific previous starting experience.
He argued that Wilson has the best chance of anyone to help the Jets at quarterback since he knows the offensive system and has experience playing in it.
Well, someone took that clip out of context to make it sound like Griffin was covertly trying to make a play for the Jets gig while on ESPN, and the former quarterback just wasn’t having it. Griffin posted the full clip for context.
Grant. Stop chasing clout. Do your job and post the whole clip instead of being a weasel. The point is Zach Wilson gives the Jets the best chance to win. No one off the street will save the Jets. https://t.co/xbqeKbuAN5 pic.twitter.com/K2yPFzrWsm

Griffin hasn’t played in the NFL since 2020 with the Baltimore Ravens and has acclimated to college and professional football coverage with ESPN. While he’s technically a free agent that could sign somewhere, it doesn’t appear in the slightest like he’s interested in a backup job right now.
At the very least, Griffin didn’t actually try to get the Jets to sign him as their new quarterback on live television. As you were.
