HARIDWAR: At a time when ageing has become a social challenge wherein many elderly people are exposed to emotional neglect and lack of physical and financial support because of their children, a ruling by the Haridwar sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) court has come in favour of those parents who experienced "torture" at the hands of their offspring.
On Thursday, during the hearing of multiple cases involving alleged torture of senior citizens by their children, Puran Singh Rana, the Haridwar SDM, ruled that "children who torture their parents have no right over their parents' property and they must vacate their houses within a month." "In case they fail to do so, police action will be taken against them," the SDM said.
