No national selector to watch Day 1 of Ranji Trophy games

MUMBAI: No national selector was assigned by the BCCI to watch the fourth round of Ranji Trophy matches, which kicked off on Tuesday, TOI has learnt.

In fact, no selector was present during the opening T20I between India and Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday night.

Led by former India pacer Chetan Sharma, the outgoing national selection committee had watched the previous three rounds of the Ranji Trophy after being told at the last hour to do so.

"There was no national selector during India's recent tours of New Zealand and Bangladesh, nor was one there during India A's tour of Bangladesh," a source told TOI.

CAC interviews shortlisted candidates

Meanwhile, the BCCI's newly-formed Cricket Advisory Committee, which includes Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjape and Sulakshna Naik, held online interviews with a few candidates to pick the new selection committee.

"Each candidate was interviewed for about 15 minutes. The candidates were asked how they would pick senior and junior players for different formats," said a source.
