Hello Games has released yet another free No Man’s Sky update. Update 6.3, titled Xeno Arena, brings a new turn-based creature battle system that utilizes the game’s companion mechanics.
Players can now assemble teams from their adopted creatures, take them into simulated fights, and work through a new progression system in the arena to become the very best like no one ever was in No Man’s Sky.
Wild fauna can now be adopted, grouped into battle teams, and used in turn-based fights. Each creature has its own set of moves influenced by species and native climate, with abilities covering attacks, healing, shields, stuns, status effects, and other combat tools.
Battle outcomes are also shaped by creature personality, traits, and physical characteristics, while companions can gain experience and improve through repeated battles.

Update 6.3 also expands the underlying companion system. A new genetics interface allows players to upgrade agility, health, and combat traits, while breeding remains part of the loop through the Egg Sequencer aboard the Space Anomaly.
Offspring inherit behavior and battle-relevant qualities, and physical features such as size can affect durability and how easy a creature is to target. The companion cap has also been increased from 18 to 30.
Players can challenge each other through Holo-Arena tables at the Space Anomaly. The same tables now appear at planetary outposts, archive buildings, space stations, and some settlements, where players can also face alien NPC opponents. Those arena opponents include Gek, Vy’keen, and Korvax competitors on planets, with stronger system champions appearing at space stations for better rewards.

Hello Games is also adding tools to make creature collecting more practical. The Analysis Visor now has a Creature Survey mode that shows species information and battle traits for targeted fauna in the wild, making it easier to scout useful companions before capturing them. Winning battles can also reward nanites, invitations to face tougher opponents, and retroviral pellets used to upgrade battle traits more efficiently.
Along with the gameplay additions, Xeno Arena also aims to improve the performance of No Man’s Sky. Hello Games says Nintendo Switch 2 rendering performance has improved by up to 15 percent, while PC gets tiled lighting and other CPU and GPU optimizations. The patch also includes inventory, base, visor, and companion register performance improvements, along with a long list of bug fixes.
