Roy Keane was not as impressed as the rest of Old Trafford with Antony’s sizzling first-half effort despite going within inches of scoring past Nottingham Forest in their second leg League Cup semi-final tie.
The Brazilian has put in some promising displays of late after a tough period post-World Cup albeit did score against both Charlton in the League Cup quarter-final and Everton in the FA Cup Third Round.
His fierce shot in the first leg of the semi-final led to Wout Weghorst’s first United goal and the team’s second on the night in the 3-0 victory after Wayne Hennessey could only parry his effort. And he came close to firing home again midway through the first-half of the return leg.

Antony latched onto a bouncing ball just outside the area, hitting a half-volley narrowly over the quadrangle of the goal as the Reds searched for a breakthrough on the night. United fans gasped with how close the effort was to hitting the net, although Keane saw it differently.
While on Sky Sports punditry duty, the former United captain mused: “Antony will get a round of applause for that but that's no good.” Keane said United were guilty of “going through the motions” in the first 45 minutes with the game on the night deadlocked amid United’s comfortable 3-0 aggregate lead.
Weghorst headed onto the post before the break following a sumptuous Casemiro cross. He hit the ground with frustration at a missed opportunity to grab his second goal for the Reds, and Keane likewise believed he should have found the net.
He said: “What a great ball [from Casemiro] and then he has to score. He’s in the middle of the goal and he has to score, he’s come in for his aerial threat, brilliant ball and he has to score. I bet he can’t believe the time and space he’s got, if he puts it on target it’s a goal.”
