An investigation into the death of a man who died days after being detained has exonerated the seven police officers.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) launched an investigation into the circumstances around the death of Vauxhall man Robert Evans in July last year. Mr Evans, 59, was found dead at his home on July 3 after he had been detained by police on Eldon Street five days earlier.
At the time his cause of death was yet to be established and was being treated as unexplained. Merseyside Police referred itself to the IOPC due to the contact officers had with Mr Evans during the stop and search.

Six officers faced allegations of potential gross misconduct and were also under criminal investigation for potential assault offences in relation to their use of force on Mr Evans. A seventh officer was also investigated for potential misconduct.
An IOPC spokesperson has now confirmed to the ECHO that the investigation into the seven Merseyside Police officers has concluded. He told the ECHO: "After careful assessment of the evidence, we will not be taking any further action in relation to disciplinary or criminal matters.
"We have shared our findings with Mr Evans’ family, Merseyside Police and the Coroner. We will publish further details of our investigation upon conclusion of the inquest. Our thoughts remain with Mr Evans’ loved ones and all those affected by his death."
The ECHO understands more details will be released once Mr Evans' inquest has concluded.
