No flood threat in Amritsar district so far, says Punjab PWD minister Harbhajan Singh ETO

AMRITSAR: In light of the heavy rainfall in the region, Punjab power and PWD minister Harbhajan Singh ETO reassured the public that there is no immediate risk of floods in Amritsar district.

However, he said that the government was not only vigilant but was also closely monitoring the situation.

Minister ETO, along with other officials including cabinet colleague Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, MLAs, and deputy commissioner Amit Talwar, visited critical areas.

"At some places including villages Taragarh, Dhardion, Mahsampura, Khilchian, Dashmesh Nagar, Timmowal, Malowal, Ghonewal, Bhindisendan, Darya Musa, and Nawan Village, there was a problem with water stagnation which was resolved", he said.

He further stated that both the Ravi and Sutlej rivers were currently not posing any flood threats.

Nevertheless, he emphasized the importance of preparedness at the village level, including ensuring the safety of residents, providing them with essential supplies, arranging shelter, and ensuring the availability of fodder for livestock, should a flood-like situation arise along the river areas.

He directed the Health Department to ensure the chlorination of water tanks in the villages and arrange required medicines for the prevention of waterborne diseases. He said that the district had 7000 rooms in the schools of different villages and cities where people could be moved if needed.

Amit Talwar affirmed that while the district faces no immediate flood danger, the administration remains fully prepared to tackle any potential challenges.
