Thousands of people marched through central Barcelona on Sunday, 20 September, opposing plans to expand Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport over fears that the project will damage protected natural areas and intensify mass tourism.
The demonstration, organised by the Zeroport platform under the slogan 'No to the expansion, not now nor ever', drew around 5,500 people according to Barcelona's municipal police. Organisers put attendance at more than 30,000.
