A judge directed a "not guilty" verdict after a trial started over an allegation of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
The direction came after the prosecution offered no evidence against Otis Wilson, who was alleged to have reversed with his passenger door open when Jermaine Mazlum was near his car.
Mr Mazlum was alleged to have suffered a linear fracture as he fell in Shelton Street, St Ann's, in the early hours of August 8, 2020, and the front portion of his skull had to be removed by surgeons.
As a formality, because a jury had been sworn and the prosecution had opened the case against Mr Wilson at Nottingham Crown Court, the judge had to direct the jury return a "not guilty" verdict in his case.
The jury was discharged on Wednesday, February 23.
Mr Wilson, 27, of Primrose Close, St Ann's, denied the allegation.
