Thomas Tuchel looked a frustrated figure in his final press conference as Chelsea boss. Tuchel questioned the attitude and application of his players following the Blues' shock 1-0 defeat at Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League group stage.
At the time, it was just the latest disappointing result in a catalogue of underwhelming performances at the start of the 2022/23 campaign, but it ultimately proved to be the final straw for Tuchel as Chelsea boss. Todd Boehly sacked the German less than 24 hours after that defeat, and the Blues are on the lookout for a new manager.
The 49-year-old admitted that he was 'angry' following the defeat, both with himself because he 'didn't see it coming', and his players. "Obviously, I was in the wrong movie," he said. "I did not see that coming. I thought that the last game helped us. I thought we showed a reaction in a very difficult moment against West Ham, got the reaction, got the result in the moments when you need a bit of luck in the situation we were in.

"We had good training sessions, I thought the team was prepared, I thought we know what this is all about. I didn't see it coming. That's why I'm angry with myself."
Given what was about to follow, there was a certain amount of irony to Tuchel's final words as Chelsea's head coach. In the last question of his final press conference, the German was asked if, because of the manner of the result in Zagreb, he would cancel Chelsea's day off.
"There is no day off," he said. "There is no day off in the planning, and there cannot be a day off at the moment."
Around 14 hours later, Chelsea announced Tuchel's sacking, and it remains to be seen what his future holds. He has been proven wrong, as there are certainly a few days off in the pipeline.
