MUMBAI: Hours after he appeared to be the favourite to win the Mumbai CA presidential elections (to be held on October 20) as his rival Ashish Shelar has chosen to be a BCCI treasurer instead, former India batsman Sandeep Patil won a key battle when the MCA's Electoral officer JS Saharia rejected a 'conflict of interest' complaint against him, and declared him as a valid candidate for the post of MCA president.
On Tuesday, the day of scrutiny of nominations and announcement of valid candidates, Sanjay Naik and Amol Kale, who are both also contesting for the MCA president's post, filed their objection against Patil's nomination for the MCA chief's post to Saharia on the grounds that Patil had a "conflict of interest," as he is a close r elative of Mumbai chief selector Salil Ankola, whose daughter is married to Patil's son. Patil responded by denying the allegation, and saying that he was "yet to be elected and hold a post in the MCA."
