Brighton's entire transfer spend under Graham Potter equated to less than Chelsea paid for Wesley Fofana, Kalidou Koulibaly, Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Slonina and Carney Chukwuemeka this summer. That's without adding on the price paid for Cesare Casadei and Marc Cucurella.
Fofana alone cost more than all three of Potter's summer windows on the south coast in isolation. It's a different world. The 47-year-old didn't spend more than £20m between 2019-2022, Chelsea spent more than that on six players this summer alone.
His methods of sustainable progression, gradual improvements and structural change worked with smart recruitment strategies on a tight budget. The hope is that now he is backed by a group of multi-billionaire co-owners, Potter can scale up his success at Brighton to transform Chelsea into a modern day superpower.
