When Tesla's Model Y all-electric crossover surpassed the Toyota Corolla to become the world's best-selling automobile this year, the vehicle set the standard for other automakers to follow in the industry. Every top auto manufacturer seems to have their rival crossover to challenge Tesla (TSLA) -).
Ford (F) -) has its Mustang Mach-E and doubled-down on that vehicle in September when it unveiled the first-ever rally-inspired electric vehicle, the Mustang Mach-E Rally. In November 2022, Toyota (TM) -) revealed its bZ Compact SUV electric concept vehicle. General Motors (GM) -) has the Chevy Equinox EV.
Hyundai (HYMTF) -) affiliate Kia offers the Niro EV crossover with a 253-mile range and a $39,550 manufacturer's suggested retail price. It also makes the EV6 crossover with a 310-mile range and $42,600 MSRP. Fisker (FSR) -) will roll out its entry-level Pear small crossover priced at about $29,900 in 2025.
Nissan was an innovator in the EV industry when it rolled out the Leaf in 2010, the first mass-produced electric vehicle in the world. The car outsold all other EVs in the market in its first four years. The Leaf, however, has come to the end of the line as the Japanese company will phase out the Leaf in the next few years and replace it with a new vehicle by 2026.
Nissan in 2022 launched its Ariya Crossover/SUV to start its ramp up of EV production. The company's subsidiary Infiniti has a newly designed EV sedan, which will be produced at its Canton, Miss., factory, along with a new crossover EV.
The automaker's CEO Mokoto Uchida in a Sept. 25 statement committed to switching Nissan to all-electric in Europe by 2030.
"EV is the ultimate mobility solution. More than a million customers have already joined our journey and experienced the fun of a Nissan electric vehicle, and there is no turning back now," Uchida said. "EVs powered by renewables are key to us achieving carbon neutrality, which is central to our Ambition 2030 vision. Nissan will make the switch to full electric by 2030 in Europe - we believe it is the right thing to do for our business, our customers and for the planet."

As part of that goal, Nissan on Oct. 3 revealed its new Hyper Urban Crossover concept electric vehicle, which will include its V2H function that provides electric power to the home, resulting in significant energy cost savings and reducing strain on the power grid, according to a company statement.
The Hyper Urban Crossover's V2G capability also allows owners to contribute surplus power to the grid to support their local community and earn money in the process. The Intelligent Charging Management System features artificial intelligence that can autonomously charge vehicles and power buildings, providing efficient management of power.

Hardware updates and regular software updates will provide a fresh ownership experience over many years. For example, the interior can be refreshed with a new instrument panel that reflects the latest technologies and trends in graphic user interfaces. The car is designed with front and rear scissor doors and wide tires for a sporty look.
The interior is designed to blend in with urban living spaces, and the instrument panel and display can be customized according to an owner’s mood. The vehicle's front seats also can collapse and fold into the back seats, creating a sofa-like, private relaxing space.
The Hyper Urban Crossover concept is the first in a series of Hyper Urban vehicles to be revealed one by one in digital form, leading up to the Japan Mobility Show press day on Oct. 25 in Tokyo.
