Car manufacturer Nissan has struck a deal with a Bristol-based mapping platform that shows drivers where charging points are for electric cars.
Zap-Map, which is majority owned by Wiltshire-headquartered green energy firm Good Energy, provides live status information for 70% of the UK’s electric charge points.
The agreement will mean buyers of Nissan's electric vehicles (EVs) will be provided with a three-year free subscription to Zap-Map’s premium service, including in-car support via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. The partnership offer applies to private and business orders for new Nissan EV passenger cars, Good Energy said.
Nigel Pocklington, Good Energy’s chief executive and chair of Zap-Map, said: "Partnerships and subscriptions are a key part of Zap-Map's growth strategy. Aligning with Nissan, one of the UK's and the world's most popular EV manufacturers, is a fantastic step forwards on this. We look forward to seeing what we can achieve together in driving the future of clean transport."
Nic Thomas, marketing director of Nissan Motor GB said the car manufacturer was “thrilled” to be partnering with Zap-Map.
“Nissan have always been pioneers of the electric vehicle market and Zap-Map lead the way for charge mapping, this partnership is a logical next step as both companies continue to pave the way for intuitive electric travel,” he said.
In August, Zap-Map secured £9m in a Series A funding round, with the firm valued at £26.3m following the raise. The company received a £3.7m investment from Good Energy and a £5.3m investment from new investor Fleetcor UK Acquisition.
Melanie Shufflebotham, co-founder and chief operating officer at Zap-Map, added: "I'm very happy to announce Zap-Map's partnership with Nissan today. With drivers increasingly making the switch to electric, our focus at Zap-Map is on making charging simple, and that's exactly what this partnership between Nissan and Zap-Map helps to achieve.”
