Nintendo Switch 2 Camera: Here's Where to Buy It Cheaper After 'Star Fox' Made It a Must-Have

The official Nintendo Switch 2 Camera is currently available at a steep discount through GameStop, giving fans a limited window to grab one for far less than its original price.

The deal comes as the accessory has found new relevance thanks to "Star Fox," which uses the camera for expressive GameChat features that have made it more appealing to Switch 2 owners.

Nintendo Switch 2 Camera: Where to Buy Accessory

GameStop is currently selling the Nintendo Switch 2 Camera for $9.99 in the US, marking an 82 percent discount off its original $54.99 price.

The discounted price may increase once taxes and shipping are added, though shoppers can avoid extra fees by choosing in-store pickup or same-day delivery where available.

At less than 10 dollars, the official Switch 2 Camera now undercuts HORI's third-party Piranha Plant Camera, which currently retails for 40 dollars at GameStop.

Customers can also apply GameStop Pro membership points to lower the price further, though those points are set to be retired in July and August, meaning this could be one of the last chances to use them on the accessory.

It remains unclear how long the discount will last, so anyone interested in picking one up is encouraged to act soon before the deal potentially ends.

Switch 2 Camera: Already Discontinued by Nintendo

According to GameRant, the Switch 2 Camera struggled during launch, with reports indicating it sold only around 80,000 units in the US when the console first released. That weak performance led to it being considered one of the console's early missteps, and it was eventually discontinued.

Nintendo reported that the Switch 2 itself had sold nearly 20 million units worldwide within its first nine months on the market as of March 31, 2026. Despite the console's strong overall sales, the camera accessory failed to gain similar traction among buyers at launch.

This led to the accessory being discontinued by Nintendo, with the company not providing any explanations or statements behind their decision. There are also a limited number of games that make use of the Switch 2 camera, making it a potential reason why it was not a popular one amongst fans.

'Star Fox' Made Switch 2 Camera a Must-Have

The Switch 2 Camera connects to the console through any available USB-C port, working whether the system is docked or in handheld mode. Its motion controls and GameChat integration are used in select titles, including "Star Fox" and "Mario Kart World."

In "Star Fox," players using GameChat with the camera connected can appear as in-game characters like Fox McCloud and Falco Lombardi, giving them a way to add personality and expression to voice chats with other players.

Although GameChat functionality was the accessory's primary purpose, the camera can also work with modern PCs as a basic 1080p webcam right out of the box.

Even with the camera reaching its lowest price yet, Nintendo Switch 2 hardware is set for a global price increase beginning September 1. Whether that hike will extend to accessories like the camera remains unknown for now.
