Nintendo Direct August 2024: How to watch the event live

Nintendo has announced what may be the last Direct game preview show before the Nintendo Switch 2 is announced.

The Nintendo Direct show will take place at 3pm on Tuesday, August 27.

Before you get too excited, Nintendo has confirmed there will be no talk of its Switch successor, in what is becoming a familiar refrain for the company.

“Please note, there will be no mention of the Nintendo Switch successor during either of these presentations,” Nintendo of America posted on X.

There are two shows linked together at this next Nintendo Direct, the Partner Showcase and Indie World.

You can watch them on the Nintendo YouTube channel.

The Partner Showcase and Indie World presentations will offer a bunch of previews of games from third-party publishers and smaller indie developers.

The whole show will last “roughly 40 minutes”, a pretty standard duration for these shows. And as Nintendo Directs don’t tend to mess about, you can expect to see a lot of games featured.

But which games? The show is likely to feature predominantly titles announced already. And, considering the Nintendo Switch is at the end of its life, there are quite a lot of these.

Upcoming games include Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed, Fantasy Life I: The Girls Who Steals Time, The Plucky Squire, Sonic x Shadow Generations, Farmagia, Civilization VII, Tales of the Shire and Dragon Quest III HD-2D, among others.

One big question mark unrelated to a game that comes up whenever there is one of these showcases, regardless of who holds it: Hollow Knight: Silksong.

The original Hollow Knight is now more than seven years old, and the sequel was officially announced more than five years ago.

We wouldn’t advise any Hollow Knight fans to get their hopes up for an appearance of Silksong at this upcoming Nintendo Direct, but that hasn’t stopped the internet from becoming awash with speculation.

Just care about the Nintendo Switch 2? The latest rumours indicate the console won’t be out until April 2025 at the earliest. Nintendo’s original Switch was announced in October 2016 ahead of a release in March 2017, so there’s still a chance the console will be unveiled this year before it goes on sale in 2025.
