A Staffordshire bull terrier cross has found himself looking for a new home for a second time after circumstances saw him returned to Manchester Dogs Trust again. Gizmo, who is nine years old, has been described by the charity as a ‘truly gorgeous gentleman’ who loves cuddles, tennis balls and adventures in the car.
The black dog shows his ageing in his frosty face, but that doesn’t stop him tackling two tennis balls at a time, or enthusiastically wagging his tail.

Gizmo originally found himself in the care of the Manchester-based kennels in 2014 due to his owner’s change in circumstances. He was rehomed and spent some time with a second family, but was returned to rescue at the start of the year.
Manchester Dogs Trust said: “Gizmo was rehomed to a loving family for many years, however due to his owners' ill-health, Gizmo was returned to us on January 27, 2022 and he has been with us since.
“Gizmo is a truly gorgeous gentleman, with a personality that matches his gorgeous face. He is a firm favourite of everyone at the Manchester centre.”
The sweet boy may find it difficult to find a family as, statistically speaking, black dogs find it harder to find a home, while many potential adopters are reluctant to rehome an elderly dog.
The charity added: “He is a real sweetheart, who loves nothing more than saying hello to everyone he sees. He may be a slightly older boy, but he still loves an adventure, he is always very excited to head out for a walk and explore somewhere new.
“He also adores play time – he'll often be found with a tennis ball or two and he likes to show off how he can carry them both at the same time. After play time he adores snuggling up for a snooze alongside his favourite people.”

It’s believed that Gizmo would make a good office dog, as he's been known to keep the Contact Centre staff company, settling into a comfortable bed for a shift. The nine-year-old dog is looking for a home with a private garden where he can enjoy off-lead zoomies with his toys, and would like to be an only dog.
Dogs Trust added: “He can be slightly worried by other dogs, so he would like to be the only pet in the home, where he can soak up all of the love and attention. He is happy to jump into the car and travels well, so he would love to go further afield for quieter adventures, especially to less dog populated areas, where he can enjoy all the exciting sights and smells in peace.
“He loves having fusses and is an affectionate boy, and he could live with children aged eleven and over.”
If you are looking for the perfect working from home companion, then look no further than gorgeous Gizmo. You can find him, and all of the other dogs waiting for homes on the Dogs Trust website.
