Cambuslang Rangers co-boss Billy Campbell says his side had no chance against a strong Clydebank team on Saturday after going down to nine men in their West of Scotland Premier League clash.
David Cox and Callum McLean saw red in each half as the Bankies ran out 3-0 winners at Somervell Park.
Campbell reckons they’re not miles off the pace in the top flight, and will work hard to get closer to teams.
He said: “Truth be told, over the first half I think we matched them, and matched them well.
“That has been a bit of a frustration and seems to be a similar theme from the games that we’re playing in the division.
“We thought we matched Cumnock and Auchinleck well, we did the same with Clydebank, but lost Davie Cox to a red card for a wee altercation with the referee.
“We then gave away a cheap foul on the edge of the box right on half-time, didn’t follow the runner from the short ball and it went in via a deflection.
“So we came in at half-time 1-0 and one man down, and we’re being positive, the guys went out and worked extremely hard.
“But you’re going to be chasing it against a Premier League team with 10 men.
“We did create a couple of chances and we hit the crossbar with a header in the first half, so it’s not as if we’re a mile off it – we’re certainly not.
“But they’ve taken the second goal very well, and subsequently you then lose another player through a challenge, so you’re then playing with nine men – going from little chance to no chance.”
Camby now intend to use Saturday’s South Challenge Cup second round clash against Wishaw to try and get up to speed.
Campbell added: “We just need to keep working.
“In every game we’ve hit the post or the crossbar and we need a break – but when you need a wee break you don’t get it. We had a long chat after the game and reiterated that there’s no point in sitting back and thinking the world is against you, because with all due respect nobody cares.
“You’ve got a job to do, everybody else is fighting their own corner, so just get on with it.
“We’ve got to be realistic and try and take points from teams that are somewhere nearer our level.
“Not a lot is working for us right now, so we need to make sure we use this game and get ourselves up to speed and get us flying again.”
