You'd think in a city like Edinburgh, which is famous worldwide for its rich heritage and incredible architecture, that we'd have a solid track record of caring for our best buildings. Unfortunately that's far from having been the case.
If there's one thing guaranteed to make you scratch your head, it's trying to work out why we've demolished so many amazing buildings down the years.
Sure, in some cases, the answer is quite simple. Many buildings in Edinburgh have succumbed to fire down the centuries, for example. But, for the most part, it seems we lost a great number of perfectly beautiful structures because we couldn't think of a new use for them, and that's very sad.
