After a long and eventful NBA offseason, training camp kicks off next week as the 2022-23 regular season is right around the corner.
On Monday, CBS Sports released their updated NBA player rankings for each position. For centers, Bulls big man Nikola Vucevic landed at No. 15 on the list.
Jasmyn Wimbush of CBS Sports explains:
“Yes, there are other centers on this list who are far better defenders and rim protectors than Vucevic. However, as teams are constantly looking for more players to space the floor, there aren’t a ton who can do it as well as Vucevic can. His ability to score out of the post allows guys like DeMar DeRozan, Zach LaVine and Lonzo Ball to attack the rim without the paint being clogged by a big man.”
Skillset wise, Vucevic is arguably a top 10 center in the league. But last season, Vooch had a down year, specifically getting off to a slow start, finishing the season averaging 17.6 points (lowest since 2017-18), 11.0 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game.
If Vucevic can get back to his Orlando Magic ways, both he and the Bulls will find themselves in a good spot within the East. But if he and Chicago get off to a slow start, he may be on his way out of the Windy City.
