Nikoderiko: The Magical World shows off more of its classic noughties platforming at the Future Games Show at Gamescom

FGS.

Throwback platformer Nikoderiko: The Magical World just got a new trailer at the Future Games Show at Gamescom Presented by Sid Meier's Civilization® VII.

When Niko and Luna find an ancient relic on a magical island, it's not long before it's snatched away from them, placing the island and its inhabitants in danger. To get the relic back, the pair must traverse seven unique worlds to defeat the villainous Grimbald.

As Nico and Luna make their way through each world, there are plenty of boxes to crush and hidden collectibles to uncover. Add to that a whole suite of traversal systems - from simple ground-pounds to climbable spider-webs and even a parachute to glide around with - and there's a huge variety to the number of ways you can master Nikoderiko.

The influence of platforming classics is immediately apparent, and fans of the likes of Spyro the Dragon, Crash Bandicoot, and Disney's classic platformers like Tarzan, Aladdin, and The Jungle Book are certainly unlikely to be disappointed. Nico, Luna, and the many friends and foes they come across are dripping with personality, and the musical contributions of legendary composer David Wise (who helped shape the likes of Donkey Kong Country, Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts and Super Smash Bros Melee) helps round out the homage.

Complete with a family-friendly design and couch co-op, Nikoderiko: The Magical World is a delightful platformer for players of all ages. Set to release this October across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam, you won't have too long to wait if you're looking for your next platforming gem.
