Nike is officially bringing the world of One Piece into its sneaker lineup next month with a new collection built around the manga franchise's Devil Fruits. Announced by Nike on August 23, the collaboration features three reworked Air Max Plus designs alongside apparel, with a global launch set for September 25 through Nike SNKRS.
The project extends beyond a typical graphic collaboration. Nike says the collection includes three Air Max Plus styles, jerseys, T-shirts, caps and a vest, all drawing from elements of One Piece lore and the franchise's visual language.
Three Air Max Plus Styles Inspired by Devil Fruits
At the center of the collection are three Air Max Plus designs inspired by the Gomu Gomu no Mi, Ope Ope no Mi and Mera Mera no Mi. According to Nike, the three Devil Fruits inform the colors and designs of each sneaker, while the Air Max Plus uppers have been completely reworked specifically for the collaboration.
The footwear is paired with Air Max Plus jerseys and caps that draw from Nike's archive. The apparel lineup also includes T-shirts featuring manga imagery, the Nike x One Piece collaboration logo and a design inspired by the Jolly Roger associated with protagonist Monkey D. Luffy.
Nike also describes a vest inspired by the effects associated with Devil Fruits in the One Piece storyline. In the series, those who consume Devil Fruits gain special abilities but are unable to swim, a piece of lore that Nike has incorporated into the collection's design concept.
Nick Remlinger, Nike's general manager of Energy Gaming, said the team drew inspiration from the "superhuman abilities" associated with Devil Fruits and used that idea to rethink the Air Max Plus for the collaboration. His comments were included in Nike's official announcement.
The collection arrives as Nike continues to explore collaborations that connect its footwear with entertainment and gaming culture. Sneaker publication Sneaker News reported earlier in August that the One Piece project had been developing ahead of Nike's formal announcement, before the company confirmed the collection and release schedule.
Nike x One Piece Release Date and Global Availability
The collection will begin appearing through a series of pop-up and retail experiences before its wider launch. Nike's official announcement lists Tokyo as the first location, with a pop-up scheduled for September 4 through September 6. Additional select retail releases are scheduled for September 12 and September 19 in cities including Hong Kong, Jakarta, Mexico City, Seoul, Shanghai, Taipei and others.
For shoppers outside those early-release locations, the key date is September 25. Nike has confirmed that the One Piece collection will launch globally through SNKRS on that date, with collection details already available through the platform.
The collaboration is particularly notable for how directly Nike has translated One Piece storytelling into the construction of the footwear. Rather than relying solely on character imagery, the collection uses the fictional Devil Fruits as the foundation for the three Air Max Plus designs, while manga artwork and other elements extend the concept into the apparel.
For now, Nike's official announcement establishes the September 25 global SNKRS release as the primary date to watch. Details such as regional availability can vary because select products are also being distributed through earlier pop-ups and retail partners, making Nike's SNKRS listing the most relevant source for the global launch.
