The National Institutes of Health plans to restrict eligibility for its Pathway to Independence award to U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and noncitizen nationals, closing one of the few federal funding routes historically open to international scientists working in American labs on temporary visas.
The plan appears in an internal presentation reviewed by STAT, which reported it last week. The agency has not published a formal notice changing the policy, and the current program announcement still states there is no citizenship requirement for K99 candidates.
