Police are investigating after a nightclub employee was alleged to have injured a young man outside the venue. The Arch in Neath confirmed to WalesOnline it has suspended a staff member "pending the outcome of the investigation".
South Wales Police said officers are investigating "an assault" reported at around 10.20pm last Friday on Commercial Street. A 21-year-old man from Neath was taken to Morriston Hospital and treated for a facial injury, the force confirmed.
Mobile phone footage has been shared which reportedly shows the aftermath of the alleged altercation. In it a male can be heard pleading for an ambulance.
A spokesperson for the venue said: "This is the first time we have seen the video. We will be looking into it fully and investigate who said what. We are aware that there is more than one side to the story as always but we are confident that we will get to the bottom of it and resolve it the best way possible for everyone."
The Arch spokesperson added: "Shortly after 10.20pm on Friday, we were made aware of an incident which had occurred outside of our premises. We were not aware of what had happened initially. A first-aid trained member of staff went out as soon as we were made aware and tried to assist a young male who appeared to have a facial injury. He refused treatment and an ambulance was called both by the young male himself, another bystander and a member of staff.
"We are working continuously with South Wales Police during their investigation, we have provided them with CCTV and have taken the decision to suspend a member of staff pending the outcome of the investigation. We are unable to comment on what caused the incident, as this is still being determined.
"We can assure that we take this matter very seriously, we do not and will not condone violent behaviour and we are striving to find ways to prevent such incidences from occurring in future. It is sad to see the needless threats, abuse and hate that has been aimed at staff members who either were not involved or had limited knowledge of the incident and were only doing their jobs, some of which has had detrimental effects on their mental health."
They added: "We also share [people's] concern for the young male involved and hope that he makes a full and speedy recovery as soon as possible... As management, we are not violent people and absolutely do not want people to suffer injury. We are at our happiest when we see smiling faces leaving our premises."
