Nightclub confirms no reports of drinks being 'spiked' after 'internal investigation' at Ayr venue

An Ayr nightclub has confirmed that no reports of 'drink spiking' have been made following an 'internal investigation'.

Club Buf launched an in-house probe after allegations were made that a young woman had her drink spiked whilst out at their Arthur Street venue.

Concerns were raised by a woman that her "biggest fear" happened claiming that she was spiked at the popular night venue.

The woman claimed she was admitted to hospital to have her stomach pumped after the incident in a social media post which was shared by thousands. The post has since been deleted.

And she claimed that the hospital's A&E department were seeing an increase of cases of spiking.

Club bosses who also own The Buf in Prestwick say they are "100 per cent confident" no spiking took place at any of their venues.

Ayrshire Live understands that police have received no reports of drink spiking at the venue.

In a statement Club Buf said: "At weekends we run a team of four security staff and have five first aiders on site.

"We have been in close discussion with local authorities including the police over the weekend we can confirm no complaint was made or has ever been made to Police Scotland by customers or NHS Ayr hospital staff regarding drink spiking in any of our venues.

"Having very closely monitored CCTV of the weekends alleged incident we are 100 per cent confident no spiking occurred in our venue."

Club Buf have insisted their venue is safe and that customer safety is their priority.

Their statement added: "We would strongly recommend any customer who has concerns at any time should report it to ourselves and Police Scotland immediately. Our customers safety is always our priority."

A spokesperson for NHS Ayrshire & Arran said: "Due to patient confidentiality we cannot comment on specific attendance to our Emergency Departments. Local data doesn’t suggest there is any trend of more frequent presentations of patients who believe they have been ‘spiked’."
