EYE ON AFRICA © FRANCE 24

Nigeria's unions have launched an indefinite general strike in a bid to raise the minimum wage. The government's current offer is 60,000 naira a month, or approximately €37. The country is grappling with the fallout from the worst cost-of-living crisis in a generation. Strikers kicked off the standoff in Lagos and Abuja by shutting down power, disrupting flights and shutting schools.

Also, the Norwegian Refugee Council has published its annual ranking of the world's most neglected displacement crises. Nine out of the 10 countries listed are in Africa, with Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger all part of the top five.

And in Uganda, a growing community of breast milk donors are providing hope to mothers struggling to feed their sick newborns. The goal is to provide nourishment to preterm, low birthweight and sick babies until mothers can produce their own supplies. According to medical research, optimal breastfeeding could help prevent over 800,000 child deaths.
