Nigeria has confirmed its first case tied to the Bundibugyo Ebola outbreak: a woman in Abuja who recently traveled from Uganda. The case, confirmed Oct. 20, makes Nigeria the fifth country to detect the virus since the outbreak was declared in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in May, according to the World Health Organization's Africa office.
Her symptoms began Oct. 7, four days after she arrived in Nigeria, WHO said. She sought care at a private health facility in Abuja on Oct. 11, and a laboratory confirmed Bundibugyo virus nine days later. She is in isolation, and 44 contacts are being monitored.
