Nicolas Raskin on Ronny Deila feud as Rangers star opens up on 'hurt' that ended Standard Liege career

Rangers midfielder Nicolas Raskin has opened up on his relationship with Ronny Deila after the Standard Liege boss dropped him to the reserves.

The 22-year-old has quickly impressed at Ibrox following his January move from the Belgian outfit as he regains his full fitness after being frozen out of the first-team picture in Liege after failing to agree a new contract. It was a messy end to his boyhood club where he climbed through the youth ranks and Raskin endured three months without game time before arriving in the Scottish Premiership.

As he approached the exit door, Raskin took to social media to vent criticism of the lack of "respect" he was being shown by the Liege hierarchy and Deila amid the negotiations. He admitted in Belgian outlet RTBF that he regretted lashing out at the former Celtic boss online during the feud: "I had just learned that I could no longer train with the group.

"It hurt me, because I had given a lot to deserve to be there. I am very frank and honest and I reacted hotly, when I should not have. It was not interpreted the way I wanted. These are my emotions that spoke, but it was not especially the thing to do."

Despite ending his time at the club on a sour note, the Belgian U21 cap admits he would like to return to the club one day. He went on: "My goal is to return to Standard to finish what I started.

"I would like to reach, at least, the milestone of 100 matches played with them. I would like to go back there later, at the end of my career: I already have that in mind, and I want to."

However, he noted that he was loving life with Rangers under Michael Beale. Raskin said: "My integration is going very well, everyone is kind to me. I thought it would be more difficult, I was surprised by the friendliness of the team!

"I think the fans like me too. We are at the start of a great story together."
