A RECENTLY accredited "Spirit of Ukraine" tartan was presented to Nicola Sturgeon in Holyrood on Thursday.
The tartan was showcased with the First Minister by a rural social enterprise based in Eyemouth in the Scottish Borders and has been made in the colours of Ukrainian flag.
The women of the Re-Tweed organisation were welcomed to the Scottish Parliament by SNP MSP Emma Harper where they gifted MSPs with facemasks, ties and brooches in the Spirit of Ukraine Tartan.
There is a large international tartans arm of Re-Tweed which has more than 150 registered tartans, including the Spirit of Ukraine tartan and the tartans of African Countries.
Re-Tweed looks to offer training and up-skilling opportunities for its members, with a number of women in the group having faced difficulties in their lives.
SNP MSP Emma Harper said: “I was delighted to welcome Re-Tweed to the Scottish Parliament and help them show MSPs, including the First Minister, the wonderful work they are doing which resulted in beautiful Spirit of Ukraine tartan.
“This tartan is a great example of what the women are achieving as they learn new skills, build new connections, find new ways to express themselves and increase their confidence and self-belief.
“The benefits of groups like Re-Tweed are vast – from helping these women rebuilding their lives, promoting a recycling culture and contributing to great causes – and I am happy to continue to support them in every way I can.”
The Spirit of Ukraine tartan is not the first to be made in solidarity with the war-torn country. The Ukraine Forever tartan, designed by Keith-based Great Scot was created back in March and was designed to raise money for the Disaster Emergency Committee's Ukraine fund.
The design even caught the attention of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine with the department thanking Scotland for the design.
