Line of Duty star Martin Compston has praised First Minister Nicola Sturgeon after she announced her shock resignation as First Minister.
The actor hailed her as "the most capable politician in the UK of the last decade" as tributes poured in. The First Minister announced on Wednesday morning that she will be resigning after eight years in office.
She admitted she had been considering it for a number of weeks and said it was someone else's turn to lead the SNP. When grilled as to whether it was the gender reform bill that was the 'last straw' for her, she argued that her "decision comes from a deeper and longer-term assessment."

As she gave her remarks at Bute House, tributes flooded in from her supporters and members of opposing parties. Martin has been open about his support for independence and took to social media to praise Sturgeon.
He said: "By far the most capable politician in the UK of the last decade.
"Ran rings round umpteen opposition leaders and prime ministers, @NicolaSturgeon leaves independence movement in a far stronger position than when she took over and deserved to go out on her terms. Be sorely missed."
This comes after Lorraine Kelly also shared her thoughts on the resignation, adding that there will be 'big shoes to fill'.
The ITV host wrote: "'I am a human being as well as a politician' @NicolaSturgeon just gave an incredible deeply personal resignation speech.
"No matter where you stand on independence she is undeniably a brilliant politician and communicator, and will be missed as First Minister. Big shoes to fill."
