Nicola Coughlan Has Spilt On Her Beauty Routine – Including The Hair Mask She Wears Under All Those ‘Bridgerton’ Wigs

We’re longtime admirers of Bridgerton star, It-girl, and card-carrying member of “the perfect breasts community,Nicola Coughlan‘s beauty looks. Whether it’s her Monroe-esque blonde updos paired with a red lip on the red carpet, her penchant for a petal plink blush, or her glowing, camera-ready skin on set, her makeup is a mainstay on our mood boards.

And, as luck would have it the 37-year-old star, who plays Penelope Featherington on the hit regency series, has recently spilled her entire beauty routine in interview with Allure. We’re taking notes.

Coughlan told Allure that she works with hairstylist Halley Brisker and makeup artist Neil Young for her red-carpet looks, which are carefully coordinated with her enviable wardrobe. She noted that as someone who spends eight months of the year in regency garb, she likes to keep her red-carpet dressing and makeup modern.

And, with the intensity of the looks and long days on the Bridgerton set, she relies on some key products to keep her hair and complexion on point.

Coughlan says that her skincare routine is paramount to staying on top of things, joking that while it’s a boring tip, millennials have many skincare sins to atone for. “[P]eople don’t remember the early oughts. It was a struggle. We were scrubbing microplastics into our face and not using moisturiser at all. Skincare was seen as a novelty.”

To keep her complexion fresh during flights and filming, Coughlan favours Tatcha skincare, relying on the brand’s The Dewy Skin Cream (a firm favourite here at Marie Claire, too) and the brand’s Silk Peony Melting Eye Cream ($111.00) with a Face Halo ($30.00).

She’s also found a hack for keeping her fine, bottle-blonde hair healthy during wig application and removal and red-carpet appearances. “We would do the Olaplex No.3, slick it in, and then the wig would go on top. I was trying to grow my hair out at the time, so that was a good tip.” Noted.

Coughlan also travels with the Olaplex haircare range, not trusting her locks to hotel bathroom shampoos and conditioners, which she said (politely) “vary in quality.” The star also noted she wears a silk bonnet while she sleeps for bonus protection; very Bridgerton.

And, while she defers to the many makeup experts on Bridgerton for a camera-ready beauty, during her downtime, she’s a fan of the Lancôme Hypnôse Mascara ($69.00) and the Charlotte Tilbury highlighter-blush hybrid Glowgasm Beauty Light Wand ($60.00): “It makes your skin look so fresh and glowy.” Plus, she loves a lymphatic drainage massage for chiselled cheeks. A girl after our own heart.
