Nicky Butt is to replace Gary Neville as chief executive at Salford City after Neville decided to step back from his prominent role with the Ammies.

Neville has been chief executive for eight years, but he is giving up the role of day-to-day running of the football club, with Butt replacing him.

The former Manchester United right-back and Sky Sports pundit will remain as a co-owner of the club, alongside Butt, Phil Neville, Paul Scholes, David Beckham, Ryan Giggs and Peter Lim, but he will hand over the more detailed running of the club to Butt.
