Rapper Nicki Minaj made headlines over the weekend after an incident at Amsterdam airport where she was apparently arrested for drug possession. The incident was captured on Minaj's Instagram Live video, where airport authorities can be seen informing her of the arrest and the need to search her personal baggage.
According to a Royal Netherlands Marechaussee spokesperson, a 41-year-old woman was arrested at Schiphol Airport for possession of soft drugs. In the video, officials can be heard telling Minaj she is being arrested for carrying drugs and instructing her to get into their vehicle for transportation to the police station.
Despite expressing the need for a lawyer present, Minaj eventually complied and voiced concerns about making it to her show in Manchester, England. The officials assured her they would try to get her to the venue as soon as possible.
Following the Instagram Live stream, Minaj shared a video of a conversation with an officer who informed her that her bags needed to be searched. The officer explained that a more thorough search was required due to Minaj filming the initial encounter.
Minaj took to social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) to update her fans on the situation, mentioning the discovery of weed and the need for further inspection of pre-rolls found in her luggage. She also expressed frustration over the handling of her bags without consent.
As a result of the delay, the Co-op Live Arena, where Minaj was scheduled to perform, announced a change in the opening time for the event. Doors were set to open at 7 pm to accommodate the delay caused by the incident at the airport.
