Nick Kyrgios has criticised the current list of commentators in tennis ahead of his upcoming return to the sport.

The controversial tennis star has made his thoughts on the current crop of tennis commentators very clear and has highlighted his issues towards their critical comments on players.
In January 2025, the Australian tennis player will make his comeback to the sport in Brisbane after almost two-years away from the sport.
During his time away from the sport, Kyrgios has kept his name alive by taking part in some commentary for popular channels like ESPN, Eurosport and BBC.
This dive into the world of broadcasting appears to have opened his eyes to certain things and he has taken issue with the approach of some tennis commentators.
In a recent interview, Kyrgios revealed his dislike towards the actions of some tennis commentators and highlighted how the physical demand of the sport needs to be appreciated.
He said: (Via The AO Show): “I’m not a very critical commentator. I don’t like when commentators beat down on players or are too critical, because it’s not easy out there, in today’s day and age, the game’s so physical.”
“Tennis commentating right now needs a bit of a shake-up, I think. I guess when you’ve really played, and you understand the Futures and the Challengers, like how many players there are on a global scale, you understand how hard it is to actually make it into the top 128 players to make a Grand Slam.”
The 2022 Wimbledon finalist wants a more in-depth approach to tennis commentary and for those on the broadcasting panel to understand both the technical, and physical demands.
He would also like to see a bigger spotlight put on players that are not in the highest of rankings or do not have the biggest name.
Kyrgios said: “We can’t just continually promote the same players over and over again.”
