After a two-year hiatus from professional tennis, Nick Kyrgios has announced his long-awaited return date as he eyes the Brisbane Open.
Nick Kyrgios Set to Headline the Brisbane Open
Nick Kyrgios hasn’t featured in a professional tennis match since June 2023, but the enigmatic Australian has finally confirmed his return to the ATP Tour as he eyes a comeback in December.
Complications began shortly after suffering a crushing defeat to Karen Khachanov at the US Open in 2022, which remains his most recent Grand Slam appearance.
He had been scheduled to feature in his home tournament at the Australian Open last year, but a persistent knee injury, followed by arthroscopic surgery has scarcely seen him return to the court since.
“Honestly, this is probably the best I’ve felt in two years,” he told Australian news outlet 9news.
“I played that amazing year in 2022. Then at the finals in Wimbledon and US Open, that’s when I started feeling some issues in my wrist. I had that wrist reconstruction and now I’m feeling amazing.”
Kyrgios continued by revealing he had only been handed a slim chance of ever returning to the Tour.
“It was a 15 miracle per cent chance that I was going to get back to playing at this level and here we are.”

The 29-year-old has spent the majority of his time away from the court on media duty, commentating for broadcasters such as the BBC and Eurosport.
He has been widely praised for his acumen in the commentator’s box, combining valuable professional insight with quick-wit.
Kyrgios – who is known for being a born entertainer and having one of the fastest forehands of all time – returns to action at the end of December with the Brisbane Open getting underway on the 29th. The tournament serves as a precursor to the first Grand Slam of 2025 – the Australian Open – which he will hope to be ready for when it starts in mid-January.
