Nick Cannon has attracted attention over whether he pays child support for his 12 children, with him having clarified the situation himself whilst on a podcast recently.
The presenter, 42, has a dozen children – who range in ages from five months old up to 12 years old – with six different women, including Mariah Carey and Bre Tiesi.
He addressed speculation over child support whilst a guest on the Jason Lee Show podcast earlier this month, suggesting that he doesn't pay it formally through the government.
Nick – who reportedly has a net worth of $50 million, though figures vary – suggested there's been a narrative implying that he doesn't pay child support for his children, but rejected the claims he doesn't provide for his offspring.
Seemingly dismissing the idea, he said: "I'm not in the child support system that is ran by the government. [...] They money is my money. They can have whatever they want".
He suggested that the six women he has kids with can have "whatever they ask [for]," adding: "My account is their account, and there's a lot in there, so we ain't gon' run out."
Bre, 32 – who shares 11-month-old son Legendary with Nick – made comments about child support in an episode of Selling Sunset, which aired after Nick's podcast appearance.
She said during an episode: "I take care of myself and if my son needs something, or we need something, I can ask. That's all I need to do. [...] Nick is not my sugar daddy".
Bre later said: "The way it works is like, after 10 [kids], the court can basically say he can't afford to pay child support. Or because he is who he is, they could say 'we know you can afford X amount for each household'."
Her attorney Neama Rahmani, however, has disputed the suggestion, according to PageSix. Neama told the outlet: "California law does not limit child support payments based on the number of children a parent has."
The attorney continued: "Child support payments are based on a number of factors, including the parents' income, the cost of child care, and the amount of time the child spends with each parent.
"It does not consider the number of children a parent has, so it doesn’t matter whether Nick or any other father has one child or twelve."
Amid reports about the situation, Bre posted a video on TikTok referencing her remarks aired on Selling Sunset and captioned it: "Who needs government support when you have lambo support". It features various clips, including footage of her posing in front of a Lamborghini that she got for her birthday, hinting Nick contributed towards the car.
In the montage of videos and photo, a snapshot of an interview with Entertainment Tonight is shown where Bre is heard saying in reference to Selling Sunset: "I can't control how it's perceived or even how it's edited or shot".
And in a recent post on Instagram, she wrote alongside a photo of herself, Nick and their son Legendary: "We're more than good over here. Love you daddy".
