This summer spells the end of four careers on Merseyside as James Milner, Roberto Firmino, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain see out their respective contracts. Three of the four compete for a place in the German tacticians midfield with speculation rife surrounding possible additions in the middle.

However, despite hailing his midfielder tipping him for a long, successful career in April, the 36-year-old believes staying with the club would aid his progress.

"Khephren's fantastic," he said to RMC Sport. "He's very hardworking, very attentive. On rest days he's at the training centre. He recovers quickly for back-to-back matches and completes high-intensity training.

“He listens and applies himself. He has room for improvement and he's in demand. He simply eats up video analysis, additional sessions. He also advises others, because he takes on a leadership role. He's also discovering himself as a person.

"He's already in the France team, but I'm convinced that he'll have a very big career. But there must still be a little bit in Nice to go to continue his progress."

Thuram is the latest name to gather momentum ahead of the summer transfer window opening on June 14. Liverpool have prioritised the arrival of Alexis Mac Allister while reports in Germany are suggesting there is interest in another French midfielder, Manu Kone.
