Niamh Briggs has been confirmed as Ireland Women's rugby Assistant Coach ahead of the start of the 2022 Six Nations, the IRFU have announced.
The former Ireland captain links up with Greg McWilliams' coaching team as they ramp up preparations for the 2022 Championship with a National Screening Camp at the IRFU High Performance Centre.
A proven winner, Briggs brings with her a depth of rugby know-how having played a vital role in two Six Nations-winning sides; first in the Grand Slam success of 2013 followed by a Championship win in 2015 for which she captained the side.
The former out-half also represented Ireland at two Rugby World Cups.
Head Coach McWilliams will finalise his management group for the Six Nations in the coming weeks and the addition of Briggs is an assured statement of intent as the competition draws nearer.
Briggs was most recently involved as Assistant Coach for Munster as the province pushed on to Vodafone Women’s Inter-Provincial success. Her development has also been nurtured through time spent as Head Coach of UL Bohemians.
Speaking after her appointment, Briggs outlined her delight at helping players achieve the 'dream of playing in green.'
She said: "I am delighted to come on board as an Assistant Coach as part of Greg’s coaching team.
"I worked with Greg during my playing career and while it is early days in his tenure, I believe he is building something really exciting as we strive to move Irish Women’s rugby forward, both at a domestic and international level.
"I am excited to get started, to work with Greg and the rest of the management team, and to get to know the players as we build towards the Six Nations.
"It’s going to be a challenging and busy couple of months, but it’s fantastic opportunity for us to create a special environment and help players achieve their dream of playing in green."
Ireland open their 2022 Women’s Six Nations campaign against Wales at The RDS on Saturday, March 26, before travelling to France in Round 2 on Saturday, April 2.
