NI woman's viral TikTok video of odd sandwich combo leaves people divided

A Northern Ireland woman has divided viewers on TikTok with her odd sandwich choice.

20-year-old Katie McBurney posted a video on the platform eating an apple and Mars bar sandwich and has received over 44,000 views.

In the video, the Ballymoney woman said: "Okay, I didn't realise until very recently, apple and Mars bar sandwiches aren't normal.

"Is this a Northern Irish thing? I mentioned it to a few of my friends in England... and was amazed that no one else had really had apple and Mars bar sandwiches.

"They were part of my life growing up.

"A lot of people are going to think I'm crazy for this. They are so good."

One user replied: "Man, they're proper legend."

Another said: "I'm from Belfast and I've never heard of this," with many agreeing that they've never heard of this sandwich combo.

A third said: "I'm Irish and me and my dad love this!" while another user explained: "I can confirm this is real."

One user added: "I used to eat this all the time as a child! And I'm from Ballymena."

Other comments were: "They are divine," "I live for them," and "My childhood too."

The student told Be : "I don’t even remember the first time I had one! They were always just a staple in our house. It might have been because I used to be a fussy eater and the only way to get me to eat sandwiches was to stuff Mars bars in there as well!

"When I do have them, I’ll have them for a few days straight and then won’t have them again for months!

"When I was in England at university I made one and all my housemates thought I was crazy, so I messaged my friends from back home and most of them said, 'Yeah, of course I’ve had a Mars bar and apple sandwich!'

"So from that I just assumed it must be a Northern Irish thing!

"I can’t say I’m really surprised by the comments, I knew that it would probably be controversial but I definitely didn’t realise people would have such strong opinions on it!"
