NHS worker tickets for Ed Sheeran Glasgow gig cancelled hours before doors open

Hundreds of NHS workers have been left disappointed after their tickets for Ed Sheeran's gig at Hampden were cancelled last minute.

Key workers were offered tickets for the show through the discount service Blue Light Card which is exclusively for the emergency services, NHS, social care sector, and armed forces.

Just hours before the show is set to go ahead, those who had purchased tickets have been told by Ticketmaster that they have been cancelled and that they should not attend the venue.

The ticket seller said their 'allocation of tickets has been cancelled' due to circumstances beyond their control.

Tickets offered through members-only site ShowFilmFirst have also had theirs cancelled at the last minute.

Hundreds of fans have been left in the lurch having already organised transport, booked accommodation and taken time off work for the stadium show.

And early reports suggest some angry fans have gathered at Hampden this afternoon to find out what's going on.

One worker, who asked not to be named, told Glasgow Live that getting tickets for the show had given them a much-needed boost after working through the pandemic.

She said: "After the clapping for carers and the initial rush of support for the NHS during covid, it sort of died down and we all just got back to work as normal and felt kind of forgotten about so getting the tickets was a nice reminder that we are appreciated.

"A few of us booked tickets to go together which was a bit of a logistical nightmare given that we're all nurses so we had to sort our shifts out well ahead of time. On top of that, we had been planning our transport for the past few weeks due to everything going on with the trains and taxis so it's a bit of a kick in the teeth to have the tickets cancelled on the day of.

"We haven't been given any explanation which is the most annoying thing. It kind of feels like we're the least important of the ticketholders so ours should be taken first if they've oversold it.

"If we had known there would be a chance of this happening we would've bought tickets outwith the Blue Light discount but now they're all extortionate prices which we can't afford."

A woman whose daughter is one of those affected said: "As an intensive care nurse my daughter is devastated and has been through enough with what she has had to put up with these last two years.

"Many other children will be the same, a generic email from Ticketmaster less than 24 hours before the doors open is just not good enough.

"How many people will have booked hotels, transport or simply not even have seen the email and downloaded their tickets to their phone (as Ticketmaster instructed us to do midweek!) and will turn up only to be turned away. They cannot treat people like this, especially children."

Another disappointed fan took to social media to say: "Absolutely gutted for myself and a lot of NHS workers who have had their tickets for tonight cancelled.

"Hard-working people who have had to arrange time off work and childcare and been sent an email cancelling their tickets."

One person commented: "Absolute disgrace NHS tickets have been cancelled with only 24-hour warning and no reason when Thursday's seemed to go ahead without cancellations."

A spokesperson for event organiser, AEG Presents, said: "Unforeseen logistical circumstances have unfortunately resulted in an oversubscription to a complimentary allocation of tickets for tonight’s show.

"This has meant some recipients have unfortunately had their tickets cancelled. We will ensure that those affected will be invited next time Ed plays in Scotland.

"Our customer relations team is currently dealing with all customers who’ve been affected, and we apologise for the inconvenience caused."
