A brave NHS worker says he was diagnosed with cancer after his symptoms were initially dismissed as the worsening of his irritable bowel syndrome. John Clegg was stunned to be told he had stage four bowel cancer that had spread to his liver last year.
Doctors have said the 37-year-old from Clifton, Nottinghamshire, will most likely not survive until the end of the year, and alleged there was "no urgency" by his GPs to properly recognise the signs. Mr Clegg, who worked as a medical secretary fell ill, noticing a change in his IBS symptoms in late 2019, just two months after he married wife Claire.
Mr Clegg had always been able to manage the IBS since his diagnosis in 2005, but suspected something was wrong, when he started to lose 10 to 15 times a day. He visited his GP practice, Castle Healthcare in West Bridgford, more than 20 times between 2019 and 2021.
