This weekend marks the Spring Bank Holiday for 2023, meaning many people will be looking forward to an extra day off work.
But those of us who rely on certain medications are being urged to be prepared and take all the right precautions to avoid running out.
The NHS has issued a warning for anyone who uses repeat prescriptions to make sure they order them in advance, getting their requests in early for crucial medication.
Wales Online reports that the health service posted a message on Twitter, saying: "With the bank holiday approaching, make sure you order your repeat prescription in advance."
Failing to do this could mean people can't get through to their surgery on Friday when people have left it late and chemists will also be overwhelmed.
Here's how you can book your repeat prescriptions to avoid running out of medication.
GP surgeries
The NHS has said: "You do not need to see a GP to order a repeat prescription. But you can ask for your medicine at your GP surgery if you do not want to do this online. Ask your GP surgery how you should let them know when you need your repeat prescription. They can send your request to a pharmacy.
"You might be able to get your medicine sent to you if the pharmacy you have nominated offers that service. Or they might be able to let you know when it's ready to collect."
Using other online services or apps
The NHS says there are alternatives to going to the GP practice including online apps.
You can find your nearest GP surgery here, and you'll also be able to find out which services are available online and which providers you're able to use.
The NHS has warned that some areas won't have all the online services so advice asking GP surgeries which ones they use.
You can also order a repeat prescription by logging into your account using the NHS app or NHS website and nominating a high street pharmacy to collect it from.
Then, you'll be able to collect your medicine in person when it's ready.
If people feel unwell over the bank holiday weekend, they can check their symptoms and get access to advice using 111.nhs.uk online. NHS 111 is a free service which is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
