This Christmas is shaping up to be one of the "darkest" in recent history for the health service as strikes are set to worsen an "already deeply challenging situation" for the NHS.
The worrying forecast emerged as more walkouts were announced by ambulance workers.
Health chiefs are working to stop the impact of industrial action as well as having to contend with an "incredibly long list of other serious challenges," NHS providers said.
